Flexible Work
Flexible working opportunities in Ireland
WorkJuggle was initially conceived from a desire to work flexibly by our Founder Ciara Garvan. As she explains here.
“I lost hours of my life on the M50. I would sit in traffic every day and think there must be a way around this. That’s where my idea for WorkJuggle – a website that caters for permanent but flexible roles, remote working and anything that isn’t a traditional 9-5 job – came from.”
Defining flexible working
Flexibility can mean different things to different people. This is why we often advise employers to advertise their roles as “open to flexibility”. For some people, flexible roles can mean working four days a week but for others, it can merely mean being able to drop the kids to school in the morning and start a little later. At WorkJuggle we think it is important not to be prescriptive around flexible work but rather concentrate on the work that needs to be done rather than the hours which are set.
As one of our candidates Lyn says:
“The Workjuggle model and what it stands for really appealed to me. I’d worked as a project manager for one of the worlds’ most reputable leading brands for over 13 years. I didn’t want to give up this experience but yet I wanted to spend a little more time with my kids while they were small. The team at WorkJuggle offered this service. I’d never seen this type of opportunity before but it made total sense.
Flexible and remote working arrangements help the employer get the best out of the employee. Worklife balance allows us to work in a focused environment, enabling highly productive and efficient output. It’s a win-win. Not getting caught up in 9 – 5 but rather achieving workload in a timely manner benefits everyone.
The modern employer is beginning to embrace this concept that when we trust and motivate our teams we get the work done, and done better. The opportunity to maintain a level of seniority on a 3 day week was exactly what I needed. WorkJuggle gave me the chance to take this route and for that I am grateful.”
One of our favourite Instagram Lives last year was with Annie Auerbach the author of “Flex: Reinventing Work for a Smarter, Happier Life”. Annie was a super guest to have on our Instagram Live and you can watch the whole video here.
If you are unclear on how to approach your search for flexible work an article we wrote on How to Build a Flexible CV, may help. here is a link to it here.
Interested in learning more about flexible work? Here is a paper we wrote here (four years ago now!) called The F Word which sets out the business case for why there should be more flexible work in Ireland.
